On December 1st Coldplay released a new and rather melancholy Christmas song entitled “Christmas Lights.” The video was filmed a week ago in London, and stylistically it continues the pastiche fairy-tale motif of their previous few videos.
I really like the song, especially the piano melody and the swinging tempo change halfway through. Oh, and the Elvis violin players. If you like it too, you could try to get your hands on one of the 100 CD singles printed, complete with handwritten pop-up sleeves signed by the band. The rest of us can download it on iTunes.
I’m always encouraged to hear good modern Christmas songs, since so many are drivel. Still, you’ll have to wait until Christmas Eve to hear what I think is the best one.
