Sunday Morning Music: Sufjan Stevens

Here is “Chicago,” a favourite from the Illinois album (2005). For me, its galloping instrumentation, including that distinctive flurry of horns, captures the paradox of serious play. And what better thing to practice on the Sabbath. Chesterton and Heschel would have been enthusiastic supporters of Sufjan.

It also makes a great driving tune, as we discovered on the way to Blue Lake last month.
