Sunday Morning Music: Chilly Gonzales

I first encountered Canadian musician Chilly Gonzales as a producer — he’s worked with Feist, another one of my favourite musicians. Gonzales is a very eclectic musician who has released everything from solo piano recordings to rap and electronic albums. A couple of weeks ago Gonzales was on CBC Radio’s “Q” program for an interview and performance. He was promoting his newest album, Solo Piano II, which was released earlier this fall. I was hooked from the first listen. When Sasha gave me an iTunes gift card for my birthday last month, I made sure I downloaded the album straight away.

Here is “White Keys,” the lead-off track from Solo Piano II. Its title comes from the fact that the piece utilizes only the white keys on the piano. I really enjoy the off-beat notes that keep the listener on his or her toes. Enjoy!
