Sunday Morning Music: Wilco

If I had a boat / You know I’d probably roll it over / Leave it on the shore / I’d leave it for somebody / Surely there’s somebody / Who needs it more than me

Maybe it’s because it was released on our wedding day (October 29th), or maybe it’s because I unknowingly purchased the album on our honeymoon. For whatever reason, Wilco’s Being There (1996) has become a hidden gem in my record collection, and remains the only double album which I listen to regularly.

Here is “Sunken Treasure.” It’s a song that has always put me at ease, with its slow, deliberate tempo and reflective lyrics. I often listen to it on Sundays. Below you’ll find both the album version and a live version performed in the band’s hometown of Chicago during their Incredible Shrinking Tour in December 2011. Enjoy.
